All is God

На русском

God is never an object of isolation but the very core of your being. The difference between Self and God is just like the wave and the ocean. Can there be a wave without the ocean?
Just like your body is made up of proteins, amino acids and carbohydrates, your mind and soul are made up of love. You are made up of love and love is God. So you are made up of God! Every little atom of your body is made up of love and that is what is God. Do not think God is sitting somewhere in heaven. God is here and now!
What is not God? What is the definition of God, if at all there is one? You describe it as that which is everywhere; which is all-powerful; which is responsible for this creation, for its maintenance and for its dissolution. God is Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Omniscient. God is not an object of senses, but the feeling of feelings, the presence of presence, the sound of silence, the light of life, the essence of the world and the taste of bliss.
Just as love is felt in the heart, so is God’s presence felt. God is never an object of isolation. God is the sum totality. When you dissolve, God remains. When you are there, there is no God. Either you can be there, or God can be there, not both. So when you meditate, you become one with God.
God is to be felt in the depth of your heart. God can neither be perceived through your senses nor through the mind. If you make God an object of your sight, then it is no more God. You can live God, can be God, but you cannot consider God as an object which gives you the path.
The whole existence has a mind of its own. It is just like you. You have a mind and it has such intelligence, that’s why it keeps everything orderly. Similarly, this moment is seen by this big mind. This moment knows exactly what to do. There are so many activities happening in the whole creation. Right now enormous activity is happening in the mind, in the present. In the Now! This mind is what you can call Atma or God and that is what you are. The mind is so used to looking to the concrete that it cannot appreciate something abstract. The mind does not believe what it does not know. You say that you do not believe in God, but God is the very core of your being. Like an onion, if you start peeling the layers one by one, when you reach the centre, there is nothingness and everything is made up of that space. The whole is God; everything is God and that consciousness is present everywhere. It is to that omnipresence, that omnipotence that all the different names have been given.
Life is incomplete without union with God. It’s quite natural that a matured mind and blossomed heart strives for this union. Religions, philosophies, practices, customs and austerities have all pointed to one thing — union with the Divine.
The common man wakes up to the pain and suffering in his life and wants to be free from it. And he looks for the superpower of creation to free him from the clutches of the world. The more he looks at the misery and shortcomings in his life, the farther away he feels from the Divinity, which is his very nature.

What is God?

Question: To my dearest Master, both beauty and splendor and glory. What is God?

Answer: What is God? What is not God? What is the definition of God, if at all there is one?
See, the moment you say a word you already have a concept about it. What do you think is God?
That which is everywhere, that which is all powerful, that which is responsible for this creation to come up and for it's maintenance and for it's dissolution. Isn't it?
Omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient. But then people say, "I see God. I want to see God." When you want to see God as some thing, as an object, then it's not everywhere. The moment you are seeing God is... there is a distance. Then you are not God. You are seeing God. Then God is not omnipresent. God is not the object of sight. You can never see God. God is not an object of hearing, God is not object of smelling or tasting. God cannot be perceived\~through your senses, nor through the mind. God is the seer himself. Who sees, that is God. See what I'm saying?
Space is God. Space, in the space is everything. Can you see space, separate? There are three types of space. One is called bhuta akasha. The space, the outer space in which all the... this universe is hanging. Where is the sun? Where is the moon? Where is the earth? Where are the stars? Where is the galaxy? Where are they all situated? They're situated in the space, isn't it?
They move in the space. They dissolve back into the space. This enormous space is called Bhuta Akasha. And then there is another space that is called Chitta Akasha. Chitta Akasha, you close your eyes, your mind, in your consciousness. There is a world there. There are impressions, there are thoughts, there are dreams, all these things happen. You live in that world. It's called Chitta Akasha, the visions and all these that come into your mind.
And then, Chida Akasha. Chida Akasha is that sky of consciousness, that is all permeating, everywhere. All this talk about vision of God is only in Chiitta Akasha, in the mind. Chida Akasha, the consciousness, the basis of all creation, that is Divine. That is all knowing. You cannot make God an object of your sight. If you made it, then it is no more a God. Are you getting what I'm saying? You should feel compassion to those who say, "Oh, I see God." Or, "God came to me and told me this." Should pity at them, "Oh, poor fellow, they do not know what is God."
You can live God, you can be God. But you cannot see God, perceive God as an object.
Is it very complicated?

Shiva

Shiva is the principle in which everything is born, into which everything will go. There is no escape from Shiva. Shiva tatva means Shiva Principle. Shiva is not a person. Shiva is the space, is the consciousness. To describe that they put Shiva in blue. Blue means like the sky. You know, Shiva’s description is so beautiful (reciting a Sanskrit verse) it’s like liberation, liberation from everything. It is the lord, it is the most powerful, it is all over, spread everywhere. There is no place that it is not. It is where all the knowledge is present, that consciousness, that space. It has no attributes. It was never born, Shiva was never born nor has any attributes. It is a Samadhi state where there is nothing, just the inner sky of consciousness. That is what is Shiva.

Where there is alertness and no action. To describe the alertness they put a snake around Shiva’s neck. They put a trident in the hands of Shiva - means it is beyond the three states of waking, dreaming and sleeping. Shiva is holding a trident that means it is beyond the three states, in the fourth state, which is absolutely benevolent. The one state in which everything exists in the universe -the dark space, the dark energy - scientists today started calling it the dark space and the dark energy - in which everything else exists. The sun, moon, stars, everything exists in this one solid state of consciousness.

Q:Dear Guruji, is Shiva consciousness and Krishna consciousness the same?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes, yes, they’re same. Krishna consciousness is a little naughtier, that’s it. When it is silent,it is Shiva consciousness, when it is active,it is Krishna consciousness.

The secret of Krishna's birth

Krishna's wisdom, humility and love are unparalleled. You see from any angle, there is a totality, a uniqueness, in Krishna's personality. This indicates that your innermost has these qualities just like a ray of sun which has all colours.

Once Queen Kunti, mother of the Pandavas, told Krishna, "I wish I had more troubles. You were always with me when I had troubles. Nothing can equal the joy of your company. I can trade all the pleasures of the world for a moment of your Presence."

Krishna gave her more knowledge of the Being: "I am in you as you. There is not a place in this world where I am not. People think of me as a physical body and they do not really know my nature. Body is made up of these eight aspects: earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intellect and ego. I am the ninth -- beyond all this. I am all-pervading всепроникающий. Though I am in the body, I am not the body. Though I am working through the mind, I am not the mind. I am much more than what you perceive. I am present in your heart as you and anytime you need me, I am there. You can always count on me".

Saints fell in love with Krishna. The dispassionate would be drawn to him. Krishna means that which is attractive. The very core of your Being is such, the bliss and joy of the Self is like that. It just draws everything. The symbolism in Krishna's birth is beautiful. Devaki as the body and Vasudev as prana or breath came together to bring forth Krishna.

Krishna is always depicted as the Blue God. It means that the body is so transparent, almost as if it was not there. Whatever is infinity is represented by blue. The sky is blue, and so is the ocean. Krishna says in the Gita: "People do not know my true nature. Nobody knows." In all his life only three people knew his true form -- Yashoda, Arjuna and his childhood friend Uddhava. Krishna says: "People think of me as a physical embodiment, as a body. I am not the body; I am the Consciousness which is present in everything, everywhere... I am the sweetness in sugar, the light in the moon, the heat in the sun". He expresses himself as 'all-permeating'.

Krishna always stands with one foot firmly on the ground, the other foot crossed over, as though it is touching, but not really touching. It is elsewhere. That is called the 'tribhangy' pose, implying perfect balance.

Krishna was makhan chor, stealer of butter. Butter is from milk. Milk is fermented to get curd and the curd is churned to get butter. Life is a process of churning. Your mind is being churned by so many things, events, happenings, and instances.

Finally what comes up is butter which is the saintliness in you. And Krishna steals the butter, the saintliness. It means he loves this mind which is like butter, which is not hard. This means infinity is coming towards you, loves you so much that it steals you at any cost. He seeks you out, wherever you are.

Janmashtami is the day when you enliven the virat swaroop – the cosmic vision -- of Krishna in your own consciousness, once again. Letting your true nature manifest in your day-to-day life is the real secret of Krishna's birth.

Tantra and inner Sun

Q: Guruji, could you talk about Tantra and Khajuraho temples? I have been visiting these temples with different groups and each guide says different things, and I do not find truth in it.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Tantra means technique. Yantra, Mantra and Tantra - these are three things. Mantra is the sound. Yantra is the diagram. Like the Star of David, it is one such Yantra which Judaisim uses as its main symbol. And Tantra is the technique to combine a physical diagram, or a posture with the sound; this is Tantra – the skill to do it. Now, Tantra as I said is a technique. The ancient Rishis wrote on sex as well – Kama Sutra was written, different postures, and different theories and principles about Tantra. It is used to get rid of obsession.
Why it is on the outer walls of the temple, for that there is a reason. Pilgrims are first asked to go around the temple and look at all the statues, and if any statue, in any way pulls you to excitement you sit there and keep watching. The moment you keep watching, the excitement comes down. So when the mind loses excitement for all these different postures then you go inside. Then your mind is hollow and empty. The mind is blank and then you are able to see the inner sun. That (Khajuraho) is a Sun temple.
You may ask, ‘But the Sun is outside, why should we go inside the temple to see the Sun.’ Now the ancient people said that is an outer sun, there is an inner Sun - The Self. To see The Self what is an obstruction? Excitement about the sense organs. The flow of the sense organs towards sense objects keeps your mind outward which needs to move inward. So in the temple you go around several times and sit in front of those statues. It is like a pornography movie, but there is sense in it. Pornography movies are used to excite people, but this is used to calm people down. And so this is used as a therapy for obsession to sex.
Obsession to sex is not a new thing, it is an old disease. You can’t even call it a disease; it is an old inheritance in people. And you need to skillfully go past that to see the light of the being, and so they use these things. They sit with anything that might trigger, obsess you or excite you, and the more you watch it the excitement is gone. Mind calms down. But Tantras have to be practiced under very strict guidance otherwise it is like walking on a sword. People who fall from there they fall completely down, and it is dangerous. Usually people say it is a dangerous thing to do.
In Tantra also, there is White Tantra, Black Tantra, and all sorts of things. Yoga is the best, a safe and secure way to move forward.
